🌍 HikeWise: First Steps on the Trail

Project update & TPM1 highlights from Athens

6/12/2025

Since December, our international team has been on the move—mapping out ideas, collecting insights, and building the foundations for a project that brings hiking into secondary school Physical Education (PE) classes while promoting environmental awareness.

We’ve wrapped up fieldwork with current and future PE teachers and students, examined legal frameworks and curricula, and we’re now shaping the Manual. Meanwhile, our communications team is gearing up to bring visibility to the project through social media (https://www.instagram.com/hikewise_project/) and blog updates.

But without a doubt, the most energizing moment so far was our first in-person meeting in Athens on May 27. Over one day, we shared updates, made key decisions, and strengthened the connection between partners. We walked away with clear priorities: integrating the GreenComp framework into the Manual, reinforcing the legal and safety guidance in the Manual, and preparing a long-term sustainability plan.

We were especially inspired by the enthusiasm shown by current and future PE teachers who took part in our surveys. Their contributions are helping us design practical, engaging, and relevant materials.

HikeWise is picking up pace—and you can already feel the fresh air. We're walking this path together, one step at a time, toward a greener, more inclusive, and mindful approach to physical education.
